It’s been a very busy and hectic past couple of months for me. First of all, today is my graduate portfolio show here at the Art Institute of Charleston. 3 Years I’ve been working toward this and now it’s finally time.
Since my last blog, I’ve interned at Garden&Gun Magazine (a southern lifestyle magazine that could easily rival some of the best), and also at A&E Digital Printing. I’ve become the President of Ai Charleston’s first ever AIGA Student Chapter, and I’ve completed several freelance projects. Most notably was my entry into the competition to design a new logo for CFADA, the Charleston Fine Art Dealer’s Association which won me 1,000 clams! Pretty sweet.
Really excited about tonight’s show. I don’t think the stress and the pressure really hits you until just before that climactic moment. Or at least I’m pretty calm about knowing how to take it. Albeit, I have been running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off trying to get things finalized. There were so many revisions to make to pieces I haven’t even gone back and looked at in the past 2 years! Then I had to decide how I wanted to bind my portfolio, which pieces needed to be printed, how my table would be set up, what to wear, ordering business cards, revising resumes, creating take aways… but my portfolio class and I were all in the same boat. And so after this class I believe we’ve all grown just a little bit closer together.
My family, and a few of my O’burg friends will be down for the show and possibly tomorrow’s celebration. Having lunch with the President of the school, and my fellow graduates at Magnolia’s (should be interesting, I’ve never eaten there before but I hear it’s delicious). Speaking of first timers, I had my first experience at Social Monday night. After we’d finished presenting our concepts for our products that we’ve been working with for the past 11 weeks in my art direction class (our product was called Bootleg Bourbon, a contemporary twist on traditional bourbon) we decided to go our for a celebratory toast to Tsunami downtown. Unfortunately there was no sushi consumed but alcohol was a different story. Okay I’m getting off topic, Social wasn’t as awesome as I heard it would be, but hey can’t argue with a free pint.
So, it’s time I got ready for the show. We have to be up there at 1pm to begin setting up our tables. Employers are welcome from 4-6 and family and friends from 6-7. I’m nervous and excited, elated and saddened all at once. It’s the end of something wonderful and the start of something phenomenal. Wish me luck. Let’s see how it goes, and I’ll keep you posted.
I’ll leave you with a few images from the AIGA Meat&Greet.
